The G7 Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction would like to highlight an upcoming event in support of the GP’s Chemical Security Working Group. This event, the Global Congress on Chemical Security & Emerging Threats, has been organized by member organizations within the Chemical Security Working Group in furtherance of Global Partnership objectives to promote a chemical security culture internationally and foster non-proliferation capabilities across the globe.

On October 29-31, 2018, the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) ‍‍‍are hosting the Global Congress on Chemical Security & Emerging Threats at the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France.

Established by INTERPOL, DHS, and the FBI, this Global Congress convenes a new community of experts working to counter the threat of chemical and explosive terrorism by non-state actors. This year’s Congress will explore specialized case studies that highlight emerging trends in this domain, identify lessons learned and best practices relating to chemical incident attribution and response, and foster a global network of chemical security experts who specialize in preventing, detecting, mitigating and responding to incidents of chemical and explosive terrorism.

This community of experts will consist of law enforcement agencies, national policymaking entities, international organizations, and the chemical industry – all of which bring unique experience and expertise relevant to mitigating the threats posed by non-state actor access to chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, explosive chemical precursors and other emerging chemical materials.

Global Partnership members interested in attending this event are kindly requested to submit their responses via the online registration portal (www.regonline.com/icpo2018gccset) by 1 October 2018.
